Das TOHO animation Studio wurde am 2. August 2017 als Joint Venture von ILCA und anima Inc. ins Leben gerufen, damals unter dem Namen I&A. Erst später stieg TOHO Co., Ltd. als Investor ein und die Umbenennung in TIA erfolgte im Oktober 2019. Im September 2022 erwarb TOHO weitere Anteile an anima, woraufhin das Produktionsstudio in TOHO animation STUDIO umbenannt wurde.

Ziel dieser Zusammenarbeit ist das Entstehen einer kreativen Gruppe abseits nationaler Grenzen, deren Werke Menschen auf der ganzen Welt begeistern sollen. Der Hauptsitz des Unternehmens liegt im Bezirk Shinjuku in der Stadt Tokio.
