Takeshi Obata is a Japanese mangaka and illustrator.

Probably the best-known manga he has drawn is “Death Note”, which was created in collaboration with the author Tsugumi Ooba. After Death Note ended, he collaborated with Ooba again, this time on the manga “Bakuman”. Before that, he had already achieved fame together with Yumi Hotta through the manga “Hikaru no Go”.

Among his former assistants are well-known mangaka such as Nobuhiro Watsuki (“Rurouni Kenshin”), Yuusuke Murata (“Eyeshield 21”) and Kentarou Yabuki (“Black Cat”).
