Hiroshi SAITOU (Personne)

Hiroshi Saitou was a Japanese animation director, screenwriter, and producer. In 1968, he founded the small animation studio Jaggard (ジャガード) together with Shingo Araki, though it lasted only until 1972. He died in 2015 at the age of 79.

Saitou was mainly active as a director of children’s series until the early nineties, many of which were also broadcast outside Japan. These include “Vicky the Little Viking” (1974), “Adventures of Maya the Honeybee” (1975), “Alfred J. Kwak” (1989) and “Moomin” (1990).

Saitou betätigte sich vor allem als Regisseur von Kinderserien bis in die frühen Neunziger, von denen viele auch außerhalb Japans ausgestrahlt wurden. Dazu gehören unter anderem »Wickie und die starken Männer« (1974), »Die Biene Maja« (1975), »Pinocchio« (1976), »Rascal, der Waschbär« (1977), »Perrine« (1978), »Alfred J. Kwak« (1989) und »Die Mumins« (1990).
