Games: Playable Demo for Lightning Returns™: Final Fantasy XIII Released

posté sur par Sephi-
Lee Williams, community manager at Square Enix, announced yesterday via Sony's PlayStation.Blog that a playable demo version of the long awaited Lightning Returns™: Final Fantasy XIII will be available for download in the PlayStation Store today. The demo version is free, of course, and is supposed to give you some nice insight into the game's mechanics and its wonderful graphics.

In the demo you'll obviously be playing as Lightning, who's trying to find her old ally Snow Villiers in the city of Yusnaan. On your quest to finding out what's happened to the world and how to save it from the chaos you will be fighting your way through this everchanging place in battles incorporating some neat real-time elements. The demo will give you a good look at how this new world unfolds before you and at how the whole battle system evolved from the two prequels. Also, it will show a fraction of your possibilities in customizing Lightning in as well as outside of battle.

That being said, there's one more feature this demo version will introduce you to: the "Outerworld", which is supposed to be a way for players to upload and compare their gaming progress like battle results and more via social networks like Facebook or Twitter.
According to Sony's PlayStation.Blog, if you manage to defeat the demo's final boss "Zaltys" and share your battle results using the Outerworld feature you will unlock a fashion set resembling Siegfried's from Final Fantasy VI.

And lastly one of Square Enix' latest trailers showing a battle between Lightning and Snow Villiers as well as displaying her changing outfits and abilities in battle:

So after playing the demo a couple times, I gotta say that I can't wait for the actual game. The new battle system sure is something else; after Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2 already introduced a way more active system than known from previous parts, this breathes some new life into the battles once again. It may limit your possibilities while in actual combat, but outside of combat you seem to have a sheer infinite amount of options to choose from when you're customizing your fighting style. As with every demo version of any game I played so far, it was too short! But what the hell, it is a demo, after all. Only drawback I could make out from the demo is, that once again the music – which is as awesome as ever in its own right – totally overrides the speech volume and there's no way adjust that. None that I found, anyway. So you're bound to using the subtitles if you desire to listen to/understand everything that's being said.

Other than that it was a really nice look into the game and what to expect, and considering it only gave a glimpse of the game's actual contents and possibilities, I'm growing more excited by the day here!
