Anime: Oscar Nomination for Kaze Tachinu

Hayao Miyazaki's Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) has been nominated for the Best Animated Film category and will face off against The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Ernest and Celestine, and Frozen. Shuhei Morita's short anime Tsukumo has been nominated for the Best Animated Short Film category as well!

Hayao Miyazaki's eleventh and final movie has been nominated for film awards at several occasions in the past and has finally been awarded as the Best Animated Film by the New York Film Critics Circle, The National Board of Review, The Boston Society of Film Critics, The San Diego Film Critics Society, The Chicago Film Critics Association, The Online Film Critics Society, and The Toronto Film Critics Association.

The one and only Oscar Award as Best Animated Film for Japan was won by Hayao Miyazaki's Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) in 2003. Kunio Katou's Tsumiki no Ie won in the Best Animated Short Film category in 2009.

The third Madoka Magica Film and Momo e no Tegami were not nominated for any Oscar category.

Kaze TachinuKaze Tachinu is about a boy named Jiro Horikoshi, who keeps dreaming of flying and soaring the sky, and of Caproni an Italian air plane designer, that persistantly gives Jiro advice. Several years later he meets Naoko, who he, however, soon loses sight of again. He starts working for an air plane manufacturer, but the company soon goes bancrupt and Jiro is sent to Germany. One day, while visiting a summer resort, he meets Naoko again and the two fall deeply in love, and got engaged not too long after that. Naoko, however, suffers from tuberculosis and refuses to marry until she's in better health. When she felt strong enough the two married, only to see her health subside once again...
