Synopsis
When night falls in the city of Tokyo, the owner of a small snack restaurant opens his establishment and prepares his food from midnight until seven in the morning. His menu is small and has only a few dishes, but he prepares everything the customers want, as long as he has the ingredients.
So customers order either noodle soup (without noodles), sake, corndogs, tonteki and other various simple Japanese dishes. As they do so, the guests begin to tell each other their stories. The host is always reserved, but has an open ear for all guests should they have any problems or questions.
For example, through specially prepared tan-men noodles, one learns that a radio DJ liked to watch a popular TV series in his childhood. In the process, a secret is accidentally uncovered that no one would have expected. Similarly, two comedians argue over a corndog made of fish sausage, which causes their friendship to break apart for the time being, as the older of the two continues to be only a comedian in Asakusa and the younger – his former student – has made it big as a TV star. Likewise, every now and then you meet an estage agent at the snack bar who loves tonteki more than anything, and every time she falls in love with someone, she knits a jumper for him. Unfortunately, her affection and knitting skills have not always been appreciated.
