MAPPA Co., Ltd.

Founded on the 14th June 2011 by Masao Maruyama (member of MADHOUSE Inc.), MAPPA Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company headquartered in the Suginami district of the city of Tokyo. The company’s main activities are in the design and production of animations.

MAPPA is an acronym for Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association.

The first full film produced by the studio is the anime “In This Corner of the World”, directed by Sunao Katabuchi.

In September 2019, the subsidiary Contrail was established. The company’s goal is to produce Katabuchi’s next production.

In October 2020, the company announced that they are entering into a business alliance with the American streaming provider Netflix.
