ARP Backstage Pass (2020)

ARP, which stands for Artists Republic Performers, is a boy band where only the best of the best can make it. While they may stand on the same stage and sing, each performance is also a competition among the members, as the audience votes on who has been the best. The series tells the story of four ARP members who all go to the International School of Music and couldn’t be more different.

Shinji is the son of a gifted and, above all, famous composer, so the former’s self-confidence is not good – and wrongly so: not only does he master the violin, ballet and figure skating, but his school performance is unrivalled. Only an invitation to join the boy band opens the doors to the limelight for him. The backstory of Daiya and Reiji, who are practically inseparable, is completely different. They once formed the band Cross Bone and had to fight for every yen, though they, too, got lucky when the producer of ARP made them an offer. And finally, the gifted dancer Leon, who has been dreaming of becoming a member of ARP for quite a while, even though his first meeting with his idols went rather strangely.

As much as they may be enjoying their success, they cannot rest on their laurels because the music business is never at rest. Each of them has to work hard to outdo themselves and each other and to live up to the expectations of their fans.

ARP, kurz für Artists Republic Performers, sind eine Boygroup, in denen nur die Besten der Besten bestehen können. Zwar mögen sie auf der gleichen Bühne stehen und singen, doch jeder Auftritt ist auch ein Wettbewerb unter den Mitgliedern, denn das Publikum stimmt ab, wer am besten gewesen ist. Die Serie erzählt von vier ARP-Mitgliedern, die allesamt auf die International School of Music gehen und unterschiedlich kaum sein könnten.

Shinji ist Sohn eines begnadeten und vor allem berühmten Komponisten, sodass es um das Selbstbewusstsein des Ersteren nicht gut bestellt ist – zu Unrecht: Nicht nur beherrscht er Violine, Ballet und Eiskunstlauf, seine schulischen Leistungen sind konkurrenzlos. Erst eine Einladung in die Boygroup öffnet ihm die Türen zum Rampenlicht. Ganz anders die Vorgeschichte von Daiya und Reiji, die praktisch unzertrennlich sind. Einst bildeten sie die Band Cross Bone und mussten um jeden Yen kämpfen, aber auch ihnen wurde Glück zuteil, als ihnen der Producer von ARP ein Angebot machte. Und schließlich der begnadete Tänzer Leon, der eine ganze Weile davon geträumt hat, ebenfalls ein Mitglied von ARP zu werden, auch wenn sein erstes Treffen mit seinen Idolen eher seltsam verlief.

Auch wenn sie ihren Erfolg genießen mögen, ausruhen können sie sich nicht darauf, denn das Musik-Business ruht nie. Jeder von ihnen muss hart an sich arbeiten, um sich selbst und die anderen zu übertreffen und die Erwartungen der Fans zu erfüllen.
