Bannertail: The Story of Gray Squirrel (1979)

Currently working on subtitling this and I have to say, it's one of my favorite anime ever (and I saw plenty of well known, big name titles). No idea why all the low ratings. Seems people come in expecting something and get disappointed when they realize it's something else. Despite what you might initially think from the character designs and colorful art style, it's not an anime exclusively written for children, in fact the writing can feel mature and rather deep, depending on the episode. Though unfortunately, not everyone seems to appreciate that. Overall it has sad, heartbreaking scenes, heartwarming parts, lots of humor and fun along the way. The characters are very memorable and lovable. Maybe it's no masterpiece of animation, but it definitely earned a place in my heart. Give it a try if you want a nice old anime, with talking animals and a heartfelt story.
